Schutzhund
is the triathlon for dogs, 3 tests are performed in one day.
It involves tracking, obedience and protection. The maximum
score for each of the tests is 100 points, with the minimum points to
pass is 70. Although Schutzhund was developed to test the
breeding stock, and some people still use it as such, it is a sport.
Note
that good sportsmanship is required not only from the handler but also
from the dog, towards other people as well as other dogs.
Therefore the dog's temperament is observed during the entire trial, in
all 3 phases, and if his temperament test fails, because of any
temperament issues during the trial, he is disqualified. Sound
mind in sound body applies in this sport too.
